THE ART OF TIME CONSCIOUSNESS

Without much ado, let’s consider our topic, THE ART OF TIME CONSCIOUSNESS.

Let’s take a look at what the scriptures says about time in Ecclesiastes 3:1-8

If you have your Bibles opened, you will note the repetition of a certain word, ‘TIME’

Verse 1 clearly says, ” To everything there is a season, and a time to every purpose under the heaven:”

That is the whole essence of time written in that verse- time is purpose. Everything pertaining to human being is preoccupied with the “theme of time”. As humans, we muse on “how much time we have left to do this or that”. Even God recognises the essence of time as a purpose. He demonstrated it in the creation. He followed the time to create a purpose and that’s why the universe existed today. God values time and all creation was timely because God was time conscious.

Well, David saw the need for time consciousness and he earnestly prayed saying, teach us to number our days, that we may apply our hearts unto wisdom (Psalm 90:12).

Time consciousness refers to the sense of time, that is, one’s perception of the indefinite and unfolding of event. Brethren, I won’t say that I am the best manager of time there is but I would do my best to share the knowledge I have of it.

Time isn’t just about the clock, watch, the seconds, the minutes, the hours, days, months, years. Truly, all this matter too. But the mastery of the art of time consciousness means you are conscious of your existence on earth for a purpose to be fulfilled. Benjamin Franklin said, “Do you love life? Then do not squander time for that’s the stuff life is made of.” Out of all the resources in the world, time is the most valuable resources you have. Do you know why? I realized while pondering on this because time is:

T- Talents/ Treasures

I- Importunity

M- Motivation

E- End result

That’s all you need to live a productive life using your time wisely. Robert Harris says, “The currency of life is time, not money and we have all got a limited stock of it.” Because our life is spent like a tale that is told – the beginning, the middle, and the end. So what will be told of you? Like mothers will say to their children, “those who are making landmarks don’t have two heads!”. This is true because those who do the extraordinary have mastered the art of time consciousness.

Even Apostle Paul knew the art of time consciousness in his epistle to the Ephesians. He cautioned them in (Ephesians 5:15-16) to not live as unwise but as wise, making the most of every opportunity, this details the wise use of time. Being time conscious is to know the brevity of our lives. Our earthly journey is shorter than we all think. May the Lord help us to be time conscious as the Psalmist. He has this to say in (Psalm 39:4-5). He says that his days are as an handbreadth. Even James recognised this as he says that life is like a vapour that appears a little while and vanish away ( James 4:14).

This makes it inevitable to make the best possible use of our allotted time, having a mastery of time. The more I studied success and successful icons, the more obvious it occurs to me that they all had something in common. They mastered the art of time consciousness. They all placed high value on their time, and continually worked at becoming better organised and efficient. The time consciousness to fulfill their predestined purpose.

Time consciousness is effective time management. There is no magic formula, no piece of paper to fill which will suddenly make you good at managing your time. All of time has a reason, each part of our life had a purpose, a time of birth, a time of growth, a time of maturity, a time of death. The only way to be aware of this is by being time conscious.

The art of time consciousness is VALUING each Hour. You ultimately become the controller general and regulator of your time. You have the apex power of choice and decisions. The power to take charge of your life lies in your ability to be conscious of every minute, seconds, hour, days and what have you. Success lies in your ability to plan every time of your life and adhere to it, that’s self control.

Time unconsciousness tends to unplanned life which will detail and remain unproductive. Time consciousness is not just about following a routine but having a productive daily routine. The art of time consciousness deals with diligence and discipline ( Proverbs 21:5). The end result brings plenteous. To be diligent means you are growing. The myriad of activities makes it easy for us to loose consciousness of time. We get swallowed up in mundane, lesser matters that waste all the opportunities to make wise use of time. To avoid this, we must prioritize our set goals.

Time consciousness is personal management, in turn your life management. If you don’t manage your time properly, everything around you will be out of control. Each of us have the same hours in a day but some people have better management of it because they invest and engage tirelessly in things that are right. If you don’t know, we all have a purpose to fulfill and only those who understand the times will be engaged in the world, to create, to be productive in all areas of life like the sons of Issachar ( 1Chronicles 12:32).

Time consciousness entails noting the importance of planning which cannot be undermined. Planning eliminate the possible areas of wastage of time and resources, this giving focus and directions to one’s life. Time is a tool with which you can build a great life marked by high achievement and tremendous accomplishments.

Be selective with your time. Don’t squander it like you can always get it back. You can always earn your money back but you can never earn time. Once you squander it, it’s lost forever.

Dear brethren, I will live you with this admonition from the Ephesian epistle, “see that you walk circumspectly, not as fools, but as wise, Redeeming the time, because the days are evil”.

In fact, with the awareness that you will give account of how you spend your time not to the boss, or leader but to God should motivate us to be time conscious. Part of is that, you must use your time wisely and surrender to the Savour who has paid the ultimate price with His time on earth.

I pray that the Lord will help us to live a purposeful and productive life on earth and unto God in Jesus name. Amen! Let’s close our eyes and commit what we have learnt to God. God bless you al
