If you have just broken up with someone, and they have become involved with someone new already, this is what is known as a “rebound relationship”. These are often used right after a breakup, to help ease the emotions and confusion that can come when separating from a partner and real love. Let’s talk a little about how to get back with an ex, when they are on the rebound.
The fact is, if your ex is in a rebound relationship, it means that they are still very much focused on you. This might sound surprising, but think about this. Normally when a person enters a new relationship on the rebound, they choose someone who is very different from their ex. For instance, if you are an athlete, they may date a musician. If you are a top scholar, they may choose an underachiever. Well, you get the point. This shows that your ex is thinking about you, and about what they may have seen as missing in your relationship, but mostly, it shows that you are still at the top of your ex’s mind. This is where you have the advantage.
And that is how you start to get your ex back. It doesn’t matter who initiated the breakup, it doesn’t matter whether it was anybody’s fault or not. What matters is the real love that exists between the two of you. Almost any relationship that is based on real love can be healed with a little effort.
So let your ex have their rebound fling. It will run its course. And during this time, your ex will be able to see the flaws in the new person, and to realize that you look pretty good in comparison after all. There will be the opportunity to deal with what might have been lacking in your own relationship later on.
So please don’t lose hope if your ex is in a rebound relationship. This is actually a sign that they are still thinking about you and still in love with you. This is why it’s important to hang back a little and let the rebound run its course. Once your ex realizes how important you are in their life, let them be the one to approach you. At this point, be very accepting of everything – the breakup, the rebound, all of it. Show that you have grown and that you are ready to talk about how you can reconcile and save your relationship. Just don’t pursue your ex before they are ready.
So to recap, this are the things you need to do if your ex has started a new relationship on the rebound:
- Don’t try to talk them out of it! Your ex will figure this out on their own.
– Do not let yourself appear desperate or keep apologizing for things you didn’t do. If you actually did something to cause hurt, then apologize sincerely, once, and let it go.
– Be true to yourself. Whatever you do, don’t try to be more like the rebound person, thinking that this is what your ex really wants. YOU are the one they fell in love with, so remember that!
– Don’t put your ex on the defensive about the new relationship or anything else. It will be much easier for them to approach you when the time is right, if you keep things as pleasant as possible between you.
